Free Diabetic Awareness Camps Held in the Centre (2001-2003)


     
The First and foremost aim of this center is to create awareness among the public. To achieve this aim chengalpattu Diabetes care center conducts awareness camps on the last Sunday of every month in the Nursing Home Premises itself.

ACTIVITIES in the Monthly Free Awareness Camps Conducted by the Centre

1. Post Cards are sent to nearly 1500 Diabetic patients who have registered in the center each month, to remind them to attend the monthly Free Diabetic Education programme.
2. Various Free Diabetic camps are being conducted monthly in the center and in nearby villages. Consultants in other specialities also visit the camps and render service purely on honorary basis.
3. Monthly free Diabetic education programmes are being conducted in the Diabetic center with the help of
  •  Audio visual aids
  •  Related lectures
  •  Demonstration of Diabetic diet Receipes by – trained Dieticians
     
4. Dr. K.P. Pichumani, the founder of this center speaks on important topics on Diabetes to the public.
5. Various interactive sessions are held between diabetic Consultants and patients during which patients can clear their doubts about Diabetes and get adequate enlightenment.
6. Trained Dieticians are available in the center to counsel the patients about Diabetic diet.
7. Trained Diabetic nurses are involved in the education of the patients about the importance of foot care in diabetes.
8. Free blood testing is done in each camp for all the people. For the past 2 years this center has been conducting awareness camps in the hospital premises.
   
Diabetic awareness Camp No:1 (Date:27/05/01)
   

Dr. K.P. Pichumani presided the first camp. More than 30 patients attended.Free blood check up was done to all. Mr. S. Anandha Krishnan who has specialised in diabetic education gave a special talk on the need of diabetic awareness camps.
 
Diabetic awareness Camp No:2 (Date:24/06/01)

Dr. K.P. Pichumani chaired the camp and spoke on the Topics “What are the causes of Diabetes? Is Diabetes a herediary risk?” Nearly 85 patients attended. Mr. Ananda Krishnan also gave a talk on diabetes.
 
Diabetic awareness Camp No: 3 (Date:29/07/01)


Nearly 100 patients attended this camp. Dr. K.P. Pichumani chaired the meeting and Mr. S. Anada Krishnan also attended this camp. Detailed reports were given on the topics like the Diet for the Diabetics, & exercise and foot care. Free Blood check up was done to all the participants.
 
Diabetic awareness Camp No: 4 (Date:26/08/01)

Nearly 150 patients attended this camp. Free blood check up was done to all the 150 persons. Free tablets were also distributed. Dr. K.P. Pichumani, Mr. S. Ananda Krishnan and the Dietician jointly explained about Diabetes and its management to the patients. They explained every feature of Diabetes with the help of a projector.
 
Diabetic awareness Camp No:5 (Date 23.09.01 )

Dr. K.P. Pichumani was the chair person and Mr. S. Anandakrishnan delivered a speech on diabetes Nearly 135 members attended the camp. Dr. K.P. Pichumani explained that the Kidney and Eye are the important organs affected by the diabetes He also explained how one can have a good diabetic control by taking the prescribed diet and exercises without fail.
 
Diabetic awareness Camp No:6 (Date:28.10.01 )
Venue: Progress Matriculation School, Chengalpattu.

This camp was held in Progress school at 10.00 A.M. on Oct 28 th. About 200 patients attended this meeting. Free blood check up and free distribution of tablets marked the occasion. A cardiologist from chennai Dr. Vetrivel spoke on the Topic “ How the heart is affected by Diabetes” He demonstrated through film, show how diabetes leads to heart attack. He also advised the patients to take cholesterol free diet to keep the diabetes under control.
 
WORLD DIABETES DAY 2001
Diabetic awareness Camp No:7 (Date: 18.11.01)
Venue:
Srinivasa Marriage Hall, Chengalpattu.
        “Chengalpattu Diabetic center” arranged for a special mark programme to mark the occasion of the “World Diabetes Day” on Nov 14th 2001

Chief guest :Mr. Thiyagasekaran (Chief Manager of SBI)

Lighting of Kuthuvillaku by : Mr. Thiyagasekaran (Chief manager SBI), Mr. M.B. Venkata perumal (Senior advocate), Mr. John Alex (Chief Manager IOB), Mr. S. Ramaswamy (Retd. Deputy collector)& Mr. K. Parthasarathy (Retd. Headmaster).

Mr. Mohan, Manager, Canara Bank inaugurated the exhibition on Diabetes. The Chief guests appreciated the Services rendered by this center. A monthly magazine called “Inippum, nivaranamum”, published by Dr. K.P. Pichumani to create awareness about

Diabetes was released on the “World Diabetic Day” function.

The Diabetic diets were prepared and exhibited in the exhibition. Detailed explanation regarding the vegetables and fruits which should be avoided by the diabetic patient were given by the trained Dieticians and Diabetic Nurses. DIAMEAL and Special foot wear to protect the foot and the Insulin pens were the other important things. Which were kept on display. Dr. K.P. Pichumani, Mr. S. Ananda Krishnan and Dietician Tejaswini impressed the patients by an interactive session.
 
Diabetic awareness Camp No:8 Date : 30.12.01
Venue:
Seenivasa Marriage Hall, Chengalpattu.

This programme was sponsored by the SBI of Chengalpattu. Mr. Thiyagasekaran Chief Manager of SBI, was the chief guest of this meeting. Nearly 120 patients got the benefit of free Blood check up and tablet distribution. Dr. K.P. Pichumani gave a talk on the topic ‘Foot care' in Diabetes. He explained how to maintain and protect the foot. He explained to the patients regarding foot complications in Diabetes Mellitus. Mr. S. AnandaKrishnan ( manager Balpharma, Bangalore) also attended the meeting.
